Quarterly Report - Third and Fourth Quarters 2002
MEL BOKIDES PETROLEUM, INC.
' 501 W. Lodi Avenue, Lodi, California
' 1.0. INTRODUCTION
At the request of Mr. Nicholas Bokides of Mel Bokides Petroleum, Inc., Advanced
GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (AGE) has prepared this quarterly report for 501 W. Lodi Avenue, Lodi,
California (site). Two soil probe borings were advanced on 25 October 2002, seven soil-vapor
' sampling events were conducted between July and December 2002 and the fourth quarter ground
water monitoring event was conducted on 11 December 2002. The site setting is illustrated on
Figure 1. Site structures and monitoring well locations are depicted on Figure 2.
A summary of previous investigations at the site was included in the AGE-prepared Work Plan for
Site Assessment, Mel Bokides Petroleum, 501 West Lodi Avenue, Lodi, California, dated 15 May
' 1998. Soil boring installation and sampling procedures for the site were outlined in Remedial Action
Work Plan, dated 27 March 2000 and approved by the EHD by letter dated 20 April 2002.
' 2.0. PROCEDURES
Field work was conducted in accordance with guidelines issued by the Central Valley Regional
' Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCB) and directives issued by the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department (EHD) for subsurface investigations and sampling of ground
' water monitoring wells at sites with underground storage tank (UST) system releases.
2.1. ADVANCEMENT OF SOILTROBE BORINGS
On 25 October 2002, two soil probe borings (CB 1 and C132) were advanced at the site to collect
' confirmation soil samples in order to assess the progress of soil-vapor extraction. The borings were
advanced to a total depth of 35 feet below surface grade (bsg) utilizing a van-mounted Geoprobe
' 5400 direct-push probing unit equipped with 1.25-inch diameter probing rods; the probing unit
advances soil probe borings using a hydraulic hammer to drive soil and ground water sampling tools
to specified depths. One boring(CB 1)was advanced in the former UST excavation near well BMW-
, 4 and the other boring (CB2) was advanced at vapor well VW-1, at the former dispenser area
(Figure 2).
2.1.1. Confirmation Soil Sample Collection
' Discrete confirmation soil samples were collected at 5-foot intervals, beginning at 10 feet bsg, using
the Geoprobe push-driven 2-inch diameter soil sampler fitted with four six-inch long brass sleeves.
Soil samples were collected to a depth of 35 feet bsg in boring CB2, and to a depth of 35 feet bsg
' in boring CBI before boring was terminated due to poor drilling conditions.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
1
