1
' 16 January 2003
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0450
' 2.2.1. Well Monitoring and Evacuation
A Solinst water level meter was used to measure the depth to ground water in the monitoring wells
' relative to the tops of the well casings; the ground water elevations and gradient were determined
from this data (Table 1). Subsequently, ground water elevations were plotted and contoured on a
scaled site map (Figure 3).
' After water levels were measured, approximately 36 gallons (a minimum of three casing-water
volumes per well)of water were purged from wells BMW-1 and BMW-2 and approximately 1.5 to
1 10 gallons of water were purged from the remaining wells with dedicated, disposal bailers; well
BMW-4 was bailed dry after 1.5 gallons of water were removed.
' An Oakton water analyzer was utilized to monitor temperature,pH and conductivity of purged water
at regular purge-volume intervals. Stabilization data and field logs are included in Appendix A.
Purged ground water was containerized in 55-gallon drums and stored on-site.
1
2.2.2. Ground Water Sample Collection
1
The ground water levels in all six wells were allowed to recharged to a minimum of 80% of the
' initial well volume prior to sample collection. Subsequently, ground water samples were collected
from each well using anew disposable plastic bailer and transferred into three 40-ml volatile organic
analysis (VOA) vials containing 0.5 ml 1 S% HCl as a sample preservative and a one-liter amber
' bottle without preservative. The samples were then labeled and placed in a chilled container for
transport under chain-of-custody to MAI. The samples were analyzed for:
' • TPH-g and TPH-d in accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified;
• BTEX and MTBE in accordance with EPA Method 8021B; and
' • DIPE, ETBE, MTBE, TAME and TBA in accordance with EPA Method 8260B.
' 2.3. SOIL-VAPOR EXTRACTION
Between June and December 2002,SVE remediation was in continual operation at the site, utilizing
' an active vacuum blower system to apply an induced vacuum to wells VW-1 through VW-1,1-during
this time,IAS remediation also continued, with air sparging through wells IAS-1 through IAS-9.The
' SVE system consisted of two-inch diameter, schedule 40 PVC piping installed underground from
each well-head at wells VW-1 through VW-11 and connected to the inlet of the vacuum blower. The
IAS system consisted of one-inch diameter, schedule 40 PVC piping installed underground from
' Advanced Geo Enviro n mental,Inc.
1 i
