(Ground Zero) performed a subsurface
investigation at the subject site. Figure 1 ,shows the location of the project site. Ground Zero
conducted the investigation to determine if past use of the property as a retail gasoline and
automobile service station has impacted soil and/or groundwater beneath the site.
BACKGROUND
From the information. provided by Mr. Larry Howen and through discussions with the San
Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) it is our understanding that the facility
previously operated four underground gasoline storage tanks -(USTs) and one waste oil UST.
Figure 2 presents a site plan showing the approximate location of the former USTs and dispenser
islands. The USTs and dispensers were removed under permit from EHD in July 1986.
SITE ACTIVITIES
Ground Zero supervised the advancement of six soil borings at the subject site on September 15,
2004. The first boring was advanced using a Geoprobe 5400 direct-push drilling rig by Fisch
Environmental (C57-683865). However, at 14 feet below the ground surface (bgs) the drilling
rig encountered rod refusal in the compact soil. Fisch mobilized a larger Geoprobe 6600 direct-
push rig to complete the borings.
Borings SBI, S134, and S135 were drilled to a depth of approximately 20 feet bgs through the former
excavation that housed four gasoline USTs. SB2 and S133 were drilled to a depth of approximately
10 feet bgs in the vicinity of the former dispenser islands (one at each location). S136 was drilled to
a depth of approximately 20 feet bgs in the location of the former waste oil UST. The borings were
G AGROUNDZE\Howen\SBrcport.doc
