San Joaquin County EHD <br /> September 30, 2004 <br /> Page 2 of 3 <br /> all 1 % inches in diameter. Groundwater beneath the site was expected to occur at a depth of <br /> approximately 40.45 feet bgs and thus was not encountered during drilling. The drilling <br /> locations are shown in Figure 2. A copy of the drilling permit issued by EHD is included in <br /> Attachment A. <br /> Soil samples were collected at 5-foot intervals for soil characterization, subjective evaluation of <br /> hydrocarbon contamination using a photoionization detector (PID), and possible laboratory <br /> analyses. Because no field evidence of contamination (odors, discoloration, and PID readings) was <br /> detected in any of the samples, only soil samples from the bottoms of the borings were analyzed for <br /> waste constituents. The soil samples were temporarily stored in an ice chest cooled to <br /> approximately 4° C, and delivered under chain of custody protocol to Argon Laboratories (DHS <br /> Certification No. 2389). <br /> Site inspections were conducted by Ms. Lori Duncan and Ms. Margaret Lagorio of EHD during the <br /> course of the field work. <br /> Subsurface Conditions <br /> Soil encountered during drilling generally consisted of silty sand and sandy silt from the ground <br /> surface to approximately 17 to 20 feet bgs, which was underlain by lean to fat clay to a depth of at <br /> least 21.5 feet bgs, the maximum depth explored. No hydrocarbon odors, obvious discoloration, or <br /> PID readings above background were noted in any of the borings. Boring logs are presented in <br /> Attachment B. <br /> SOIL ANALYTICAL RESULTS <br /> The soil samples were submitted under chain of custody procedures to Argon Laboratories <br /> (ELAP 42359). The soil samples collected from beneath the former gasoline USTs and dispensers <br /> were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) using EPA Method 8015B, for <br /> benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) using EPA Method 8021B, for Volitile <br /> Organic Compounds (VOCs) including methanol, ethanol, 1,2-DCA and EDB using EPA Method <br /> 8260B, and for total lead using EPA 7420. The soil sample collected beneath the former waste oil <br /> UST was analyzed for constituents listed above and, in addition, was analyzed for Semi-volatile <br /> Organic Compounds (SVOCs) using EPA Method 8270C, total oil & grease (O&G) by EPA <br /> 503011664, PCBs by EPA Method 8082, and Title 22 Metals by EPA Method 6010B (except <br /> mercury, which was analyzed by EPA7471 A). <br /> No petroleum hydrocarbon constituents, including VOCs, were detected above the method <br /> detection limits in any soil sample. No SVOCs, total oil and grease, or PCBs were detected <br /> above their method detection limits in the soil sample collected beneath the waste oil UST. <br /> GAGROUNDZE\Howen\SBreport.doc <br />
