Wastewater originates from stormwater falling on exposed raw materials. Stormwater
which comes in contact with the raw materials is termed"contact water" and will be
disposed of in a different manner than non-contact stormwater.
8. Outdoor storage and mixing of raw materials will be performed within the 2.6 acre bermed
outdoor storage area. The area will be sloped to allow collection of contact water. The
collected contact water will flow by gravity through a pipe to the contact water pond.
9. .Approximately one-half of the site is paved, with three large areas under sheet metal roofs.
Stormwater that falls on the paved portion of the site drains to inlets that discharge into the
existing stormwater pond.
10. Four vertical drains located in the bottom of the existing stormwater pond at the facility
were located and plugged by drilling out the drain casings and grouting the boreholes with
sand/cement slurry.
11. Because the site is new and actual data is not available, the Discharger completed a
laboratory simulation of contact stormwater. The simulated contact water was chemically
analyzed to determine constituents of concern. The RWD identified the following
constituents at the indicated concentrations:
Analyte Units S-1 Before Curing) S-2 (After Curing)
Hardness mg/l 290 330
Alkalinity(CaCO3) mg/l < 1.0 44
Chloride mg/1 36 150
Sulfate mg/l 540 700
