Ratliff
Registered Sanitarian
San Joaquin Local Health District
1601 East Hazelton Avenue
Stockton, California 95205
Subject: Addendum to Preacquistion Environmental Assessment Work
Plan for Proposed ARCO Station Property, Northeast
Corner of Main Street and Indiana Street, Woodbridge,
California.
Ms. Ratliff:
This letter is to follow up on our telephone conversation of May
26 and May 31, 1988 in which we discussed the concerns or
problems you had with the Work Plan No. 39044-1W and permitting
for the above referenced site. Each subject we discussed is
discussed below and may be considered as an addendum to the Work
Plan.
1) A concern expressed was responsibility for the drill
cuttings generated during this work. As mentioned on page
12 of the Work Plan, disposal or treatment of drill cuttings
will be the responsibility of ARCO. Following evaluation of
the analytical results of the soil samples Applied
GeoSystems will recommend to ARCO what appropriate methods
are feasible for disposal of the cuttings. If the cuttings t
contain no evidence of hydrocarbon contamination ARCO will
choose to leave the soil onsite to be disposed of or used
during construction. If analytical data indicate the
cuttings are contaminated ARCO will dispose of or treat the
soil properly.
2) A concern was expressed on the backfilling of the soil vapor
probe holes with bentonite instead of neat cement. Applied
GeoSystems proposes to modify our procedure for backfilling
the soil vapor probe holes for this site from backfilling
with bentonite pellets to backfilling with neat cement as
you have recommended. The probe holes will be backfilled
with a cement, water, and bentonite slurry to within a few
inches below grade.
