Report-Soil Investigation Page 5 <br /> Former UPRR Service Yard <br /> Project No. 376.2 <br /> May 9, 2003 <br /> 3.0 FIELD & ANALYTICAL DATA <br /> 3.1 Site Geology and Hydrology <br /> Site Geology Observed During Investigation <br /> The shallow soil encountered during• the investigation can be generally be <br /> characterized as railroad ballast or road base up to more than one foot thick <br /> underlain by dense gray, to greenish-gray clay and silty clay. <br /> i <br /> Soil Profile <br /> ' 0 to I5'Below <br /> Ground Surface (BGS) <br /> f The soils in this interval consisted of generally of stiff, well indurated clay, dark <br /> greenish gray. <br /> 15'to 25'BGS <br /> �'. The soils from this interval consisted generally of well-sorted, fine-grained sand <br /> with poor to fair sorting, or sandy silt. The soil in the boring SB-1 was stained <br /> and exuded a gasoline odor. <br /> _ 25'to 35'BGS <br /> Soils from this interval consisted of'sandy clay with plastic deformation and <br /> moist and well-sorted sands, fine to coarserained <br /> g . The soil was not stained but <br /> intervals above 35 feet continued to exude a petroleum odor. <br /> 35'to 45'BGS <br /> Soils from this interval consisted of sandy clay,- with very fine to fine-grained <br /> sand, plastic deformation and moist. <br /> 1 <br /> Groundwater was measured to be approximately 38 to 40 feet below grade. The �. <br /> groundwater sample also exuded a weakpetroleum odor.- <br /> Below the surface layer, no staining or unusual odors were observed in borings <br /> B-2 or B-3. Copies of the boring logs are included in Appendix B. <br /> i <br /> 3.2 Sample Analysis <br /> Soil <br /> Selected soil samples,were submitted for,analysis at a California State Certified <br />{•� Laboratory (Sherwood Laboratories in Hilmar, DHS#1400).
