Brodburne, Briller&Johnson, LL • Health&Safety Plan
The site-specific monitoring procedures for this project will consist of visual observation of the ambient
air for dust and olfactory. Due to the potential presence of metals and pesticides in the subsurface, care
will be taken to ensure activities will be utilized to minimize the amount of dust generating activities. If
needed, the areas of concern will be wetted with water prior to soil boring advancement or sampling.
If dust cannot be suppressed, work may be temporarily halted and a particulate meter may be required
to measure dust particles in the ambient air within the work area prior to resuming work. The field
safety coordinator will make this determination at the time of field work. If olfactory observations
indicate excessive organic vapor levels in the breathing zone, work will be temporarily halted, and BB&J
will obtain a photo-ionization detector (PID) to screen the ambient air within the work area prior to
resuming work. If organic vapor levels do not dissipate below 10 parts per million (ppm) in the
breathing zone, work will cease and the work area will be evacuated until appropriate PPE is donned or
corrective measures are implemented to dissipate the organic vapor levels to below 10 ppm. If the work
area is not deemed safe to re-enter, work will be terminated until appropriate Health &Safety measures
are taken (e.g.,the level of PPE is upgraded).
