\M01 ..J
Ir
'r Soil &Groundwater Excavation Work Plan Advanced Environmental Concepts, Inc.
V
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This work plan describes the procedures to be employed by Advanced Environmental Concepts,Inc.(AEC)
to excavate gasoline and diesel impacted soil in the vicinity of two gasoline and one diesel underground storage
tanks(UST's)previously removed in 1992. The site is located at 700 West Linne Road, approximately 6 miles
southeast of Tracy, California. Site location is shown on Figure 1.
V
Upon satisfactory excavation of the site,the impacted soil will be transported to a centrally located treatment
area, at the south end of the property. "Clean" fill will be excavated from this treatment area and stockpiled
adjacent to the excavation. The excavated gasoline impacted soil will be shuttled to the treatment area, as
replacement fill, then subsequently landfarmed. The excavation will be backfilled and compacted with a
minimum one foot layer of crushed rock on the floor of the excavation to create a competent bridge, followed
by the clean borrow import. The diesel impacted soil will be treated by applying nutrients and laboratory
.. formulated microbes to promote bio degradation.
This work plan has been authorized by Mr. Brian Hauss, Ranch Manager. The San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Division (SJCEHD), represented by Mr. Michael Infurna, is the lead agency for the
project. Providing additional oversight will be the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board
(RWQCB).
16w 1.1 Purpose
The services described in this work plan have the following objective:
Excavate,stockpile, and remedlate diesel and gasoline impacted soil from the vadose zone;
and remove the hydrocarbon impacted water-bearing zone to the"perching", less permeable
layer. Backfill and compact the excavation,landfarm the hydrocarbon impacted soil.
1.2 Scope of Services
V
The scope of services described in this work plan include:
1. Excavate the impacted soil at the two former underground storage tank locations
` using a track-mounted excavator,or equivalent. Anticipated excavation dimensions
are 70' x 45' x 14' for the gasoline impacted area; and 10' x 10' x 12' in the diesel
impacted area. Actual size of the excavation will be based on field screening criteria
60 by an AEC geologist, and a mobile analytical laboratory;
2. Separate.and stockpile clean overburden soil from hydrocarbon impacted soil for
later use as excavation backfill. Criteria for"clean"soil will be PID readings of less
` than 10 ppm proximal to the gasoline impacted soil, all overburden soil proximal to
the diesel excavation will be considered contaminated because of detection difficulties
associated with diesel and the PID;
+r
3. Shuttle impacted soil to the centrally located treatment area;
4. Collect confirmatory soil samples from the floor and sides of the excavations
`W and analyze for total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g) by EPA method
Project: AEC 97V-1805 1
w
.ENVIRONMENTAL CONCEPTS WITH DESIGN IN MIND•
 4400 ASHE ROAD.x206 BAKERSFIELD.CA 93313 8051831-1646 • FAX 8051831-1771
