ARCADIS Ms. Donna DeMartino
April 17, 2013
laboratory analyses. Slightly elevated PID readings were detected in soil samples
collected from soil borings SB-3, SB-4, and SB-9 (see soil boring logs in Attachment
1).
Soil samples were collected in clean, laboratory-provided sample containers and
stored in an ice-chilled cooler for transportation to the laboratory under chain-of-
custody protocol. Soil samples were analyzed by TestAmerica Laboratories, Inc.
(TestAmerica) a state-certified laboratory in Pleasanton, California for the following
analyses:
• TPH as gasoline (TPHg), TPHd, TPH as motor oil (TPHmo) using
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 8015B
• benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes, (BTEX) and methyl
tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) using EPA Method 8260B
Laboratory reports provided by TestAmerica are included as Attachment 2.
Analytical Results of Soil Samples
ARCADIS collected a total of 25 soil samples from the nine soil borings. The
analytical results were reported on a dry weight basis so that analytical results could
be compared to their respective Environmental Screening Levels (ESLs) for
Commercial Land Use, where groundwater is a potential source of drinking water.
The San Francisco Bay division of the California Regional Water Quality Control
board (RWQCB) has published the ESLs as a screening tool to be used to compare
the analytical results for soil and groundwater samples collected at sites in the San
Francisco Bay area. The following statement has been extracted from the RWQCB
ESL document:
"The presence of a chemical at concentrations in excess of an ESL does not
necessarily indicate that adverse impacts to human health or the
environment are occurring; this simply indicates that a potential for adverse
risk may exist and that additional evaluation is warranted."
Page:
FINAL 2013-04-17-Report SJRTD Bus Depot..doc 5/8
