ARCADIS Ms. Donna DeMartino
April 17, 2013
Analytical results for the soil samples collected by ARCADIS in April 2013 are
summarized in Table 1 and discussed below. None of the soil samples collected
during this investigation contained MTBE or BTEX at concentrations greater than the
laboratory reporting limits (see Table 1 and Attachment B).
Concentrations of TPHd were detected above laboratory reporting limits in 15 of the
25 soil samples collected at the site (each soil boring except SB-8 contained TPHd
above laboratory reporting limits). The concentrations of TPHd ranged from 1.1
mg/kg to 210 mg/kg (soil boring SB-3); only one of these samples (the soil sample
collected 8 feet bgs from soil boring SB-3) contained TPHd at a concentration above
the ESLs for TPHd of 83 mg/kg (see Table 1). TPHd was detected in the soil sample
collected 12 feet bgs from soil boring SB-3 at 21 mg/kg (see Table 1).
Concentrations of TPHmo were detected soil samples collected from soil borings SB-
C and SB-3 at 56 mg/kg and 61 mg/kg, and 370 mg/kg, respectively. These
concentrations are below the ESL for TPHmo of 500 mg/kg.
Concentrations of TPHg were detected at 270 mg/kg in the soil sample collected at
12 feet bgs from SB-3. This concentration is below the ESL of 83,000 mg/kg and this
was the only soil sample to contain TPHg at a concentration greater than the
laboratory reporting limits.
Conclusions
Based on the field observations and analytical results for the soil samples collected
at the site, it does not appear that the soil quality in the vicinity of the USTs, the fuel
dispensing area, or the pipelines has been significantly affected by the operation of
the UST systems. The analytical results for the soil samples collected from this
investigation do not suggest that a significant release has occurred from the UST
systems that are at the Site. Following your review of this report, representatives of
ARCADIS would like to discuss the enclosed results of the investigation and discuss
the UST removal project that is being contemplated for the site. In accordance with
the terms and conditions of the drilling permit applications retained for this project,
the information obtained from this investigation is to be submitted to the SJCEHD.
Page:
FINAL 2013-04-17-Report SJRTD Bus Depot..doc 6/8
