Linne Road, Tracy, CA
Claim No.: 8500
Dear Ms Sanborn:
On behalf of Donald Sinclair and Shirley Thompson located at 3780 West Linne Road, Tracy,
CA, Geological Technics Inc. (GTI) has prepared the following request for cost pre-approval
for the installation of one deep monitoring well and one year of groundwater monitoring.
Attached are copies of the work plan, approval letter, Il~B for drilling of the monitoring well,
and the bid responses from V&W Drilling.
Summary Work to be Performed To Date
Geological Technics Inc. personnel supervised and directed a subsurface investigation at
Sinclair and Thompson Property located at 3780 West Linne Road in Tracy, California. This
work included the following:
• Install three groundwater monitoring wells and one soil boring on June 14, 1995, to evaluate
the extent of gasoline range petroleum hydrocarbons.
• Collect soil samples on June 14, 1995 and groundwater samples were collected on June 23,
1995, and tested for TPH-G and BTEX.
• The depth to groundwater was measured and the groundwater was shown to flow generally
east northeast. None of the 3 wells are down gradient of the source.
• Laboratory analytical data results have shown that the soil in all 4 boreholes and
groundwater in the 3 monitoring wells are impacted by gasoline.
• On February 16, 1999, MW-4 was installed at the site. Soil and groundwater samples
showed the presence of low levels of BTEX and TPH-G.
On December 8, 1999, Mr. Ron Rowe of SJC PHS/EHD issued a letter directing further
investigation of the lateral extent of the soil and groundwater plume at the site. GTI prepared a
work plan to complete this work. On April 20, 2000, Ms. Lori Duncan of SJC PHSIEHD issued
a letter denying the approval of the work plan. During phone conversations in May of 2000,
Ms. Duncan requested that a work plan be prepared for the installation of a deeper monitoring
well near the source to define the vertical extent of the contamination and a sentinel well
between the source and the domestic well. Prior to the preparation of this new work plan it was
determined that the domestic well had been abandoned due to casing failure. GTI submitted the
