1
Geolagicai rechnks Inc. Page 5
Initial Site Conceptual Model
Project No. 1030.2
June 18,2003
The deep geology of the site is primarily poorly sorted sand with varying amounts of silt
and clay. The screen interval of the deep well (MW-101) is located in dirty sand. MW-101
' is the only deep well and defining the deep geology is limited to this data.
4.5 Biodegradation Indicators
' The results of the Natural Attenuation Parameter NAP tests are summarized in Table 4 and
' field parameters are summarized in Table 5 of Appendix A. Additional discussion and
laboratory analytical results can be reviewed in GTI's: I" Quarter 2003 Groundwater
Monitoring Report—April 24, 2003.
' Below are classifications of the wells resulting from the current monitoring data:
• Wells considered near the center of the contaminated plume include MW-1.
• Wells considered to be near the margins of the plume include MW-4 & MW-101.
• Wells considered to represent background conditions include MW-2, 3 & domestic well.
' The hydrocarbon analytical data correlates well with these classifications, with MW-1 being
the only impacted well.
The following table gives general characteristics of background conditions compared to
conditions inside the plume. m i, l cu d d._., t•w ,J, ,,f;„r/ 7
' Parameter Source of the Background Plume Plume
Parameter Behavior Behavior
' Core Margins
Nitrate' e Acceptor Slightly Enriched Depleted Not Depleted
Ferrous Iron Metabolic Byproduct Slightly Enriched Slightly Enriched Not Enriched
Sulfate' e Acceptor Site Specific Slightly Enriched Mildly Depleted
Temperature Metabolic Byproduct Site Specific Elevated Slight Elevated
pH Metabolic Byproduct Site Specific Slightly Lower Slightly Higher
' Alkalinity Metabolic Byproduct Site Specific Enriched Mildly Depleted
Redox Potential Metabolic Byproduct Negative Value Depleted Slightly Lower
Conductivity Metabolic Byproduct Site Specific Elevated Unaffected
' e=electron
Terminal electron accepting process:
1 =denitrification
.... .. 2=reduction
