Your
- _ - -
department issued a letter in February 1997 summarizing the low risk to human health
from this area. Teichert Aggregates would like to inform the county of a change of land
use and our intentions to excavate the site. It is our intention to excavate down to the
clay layer, approximately 25 to 30 feet below grade, from the location of SB-2 to SB-5.
This area exhibited the greatest impact from the release diesel from the former farming
operations. We will sample the walls and floor of the excavation. If the results of the
sampling are less than 100 mg/kg we will consider any residual material to be below
action levels. The excavated material will be returned to.the plant site and placed on and
covered by visquin. It will be periodically sampled until it also exhibits results less than
100 mg/kg at which point it should be safe to feed through the rock plant or asphalt plant.
The LUFT manual sets an action limit of 1000 mg/kg for diesel so Teichert feels that 100,
mg/kg is a reasonable limit to achieve in order to protect public health. It is our intent to
excavate this are on April 1, 1999 weather permitting.
Please contact me at (916) 484-33511 if you would like to observe the operation or if you
need more information. A follow-up report will be made to your office with the
analytical results included.
-Sincerely,
Teichert Aggregates
Becky L.
