PHS/ENL?has determined that the site investigarion of contamination
resulting from an unauthorized release from the farm tanks removed from this site in 1990 has
been completed.
Results from the subsurface investigation in the area where the former farm tanks were located
indicate the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel at a maximum concentration of 13.000
ppm and toluene, ethyl benzene and xylene(TEX)at just above detection limits. The complete
lack of detectable benzene and the low leveLs of TFC(Indicate that the leak was primarily from the
former diesel UST. The maximum depth of the contamination did net exceed 40 feet, Depth to
groundwater at the site is approximately 60 feet.
Diesel is not a known human carcinogen and clean Up of diesel plumes is driven by taste and
odor thresholds in groundwater drinking water supplies. Diesel is not very mobile in the
subsurface soil environment and usually does not migrate far from the source. The risk to human
health and the environment from the residual diesel contamination does not appear to require
cleanup measures at this time.
Please be advised that PHS/EHD requires notification prior to any changes in land use or
excavation activities in the area of the former farm UST.
For additional information please contact Steven Sasson at(209)468-3459.
Donna Heran, RENS, Director
Enviro
nmental Health Division
r
Amen Sasson.
