U
1.2 Scope of Work
The planned future activities at the site includes the following tasks be
i
performed:
Mobilization of all necessary personnel, equipment, and supplies to perform
I
the work.
' 3
• Prior to excavation, Underground Service Alert (USA) will be contacted to
€ locate underground and overhead utility lines including sewer, water; and
electrical, and phone that may exist in the areas where excavation will occur.
—Overexcavation and sail-screening to-detrriiir—e ver tirdl-arli lrtral extentof
the soil contamination.
I
I Collection of soil samples.
i
1
1.3 Overe'xcavation and Field Screening
1
Overexcavation of the UST site will be accomplished using a wheeled backhoe.
All excavated soil will be placed on visquine and stored in a separate
contaminated soil stockpile. The sides and bottom of the hole will be excavated
i
at one (1) foot intervals. The in-place soil 'at- the sides and bottom of the
excavation will be field screened. Field screening will consist of both visual
inspection and field screening techniques. A photoionization detector (PID) will
be used as a semi-quantitative field screening method. During excavation soils
that have a strong organic or chemical odor, are visibly stained, or display a high
organic vapor reading on the PID (greater than 10 ppm) will be considered
contaminated. Soils with these characteristics are most likely to be
contaminated with hydrocarbons. Overexcavation will continue at one-foot
intervals until no suspected contamination is present. Final determination of
contamination will be based on sample analysis.
2of3
t
I
