Boggs,Elizabeth A. Thayer FROM: Heidi Barr
Underground Tank Unit
DATE: 7 September 1994 SIGNATURE:
SUBJECT: MARVEL MARKET,429 LOCKEFORD STREET WEST, LODI, SAN JOAQUIN
COUNTY
Staff review of our file shows that on 22 May 1987 a 500 gallon unleaded gasoline tank
and a 250 gallon regular gasoline tank were removed from this site. Sandy soils and
petroleum odors were observed. On 10 June 1987, soil samples taken at 11 feet below
ground surface detected up to 540 mg/kg of TPH (gas). On 13 December 1990, about
200 cubic yards of soil were excavated to 15 feet. Soil samples were collected but the
reports did not specify where the samples were collected. TPH (gas) was detected at a
concentration of 230 mg/kg, Toluene at 9.6 mg/kg,Ethylbenzene at 62 mg/kg, and
Xylene at 865 mg/kg.
In May 1991 one soil boring was converted to a ground water monitoring well. A soil
sample from the boring for the well had up to 1500 mg/kg TPH (gas) as well as,
Benzene, Toluene,Xylene, and Lead. Ground water samples collected in May 1991
revealed TPH (gas) up to 1000 Rg/l, Benzene at 8 gg/l, Toluene at 680 gg/1, Xylene at
130 gg/l, Ethylbenzene at 26 µg/l, and EDB at 7µg/l. Lead was non detectable.
During the last six ground water sampling events (February 1992 to June 1993) BTEX
was below the detection limit (1 ppm) and TPH (gas) has been below the detection limit
(3 ppb) during the 'last four sampling events (May 1992 to June 1993). In January 1993
two additional monitoring wells were installed in the down gradient direction. Ground
water samples from both wells in March and June 1993 were below detection limits.
A soil vapor extraction system, operated from April of 1992 until January 1993, removed
approximately 1,070 pounds of gasoline. On 5 April 1993 the San Joaquin Valley Unified
Air Pollution Control District indicated that all air related remediation actions at the site
had been discontinued and equipment had been removed. Three borings were drilled in
August 1993, and were reported to contain no detectable concentrations of TPH (gas) or
BTEX.
