PHS/EHD requested in correspondence dated September 27, 1993 the
Regional Board's review and concurrence of PHS/EHD's determination that all appropriate response actions
had been completed and that all acceptable remedial practices were implemented and that no further
investigation, remedial action,or monitoring was required at this site, with regard to the underground storage
tanks formerly located at this site, based on information which was currently and actually known.
Avapor extraction system operated from April 1992 to January 1993 and removed approximately 1,070 pounds
of gasoline. The August 1993 confirmation soil sampling did not detect contamination indicating that the site
has been adequately remediated. Groundwater contamination was evidenced in the monitoring well located
closest to the former tank pit and was remediated along with the soil contamination. No TPH-gas,benzene,
toluene, or ethylbenzene were detected in groundwater samples since August 1992. Xylene was detected at
levels slightly above the detection limits in November 1992, but none since then has been detected.
Please be informed that PHS/EHD will certify the site for closure and direct the responsible party to destroy
the three monitoring wells and one vapor extraction well, unless the Regional Board responds within 30 days
of the date of this letter either rejecting the recommended closure or requesting additional time to review
PHS/EHD's recommendation. Enclosed is a copy of the case closure summary and chronology for your
information.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact Mary Meays, at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Mary Meays, Senior REHS J-*iDiane V-4iinson, RENS
Site Mitigation Unit Supervisor
MM\429LOC
cc: Mardee Kidd, Marvel Market (w/enclosures)
W., Bruce Scarbourgh, Seacor (w/o enclosures)
A Di%ision of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
