r
Ms. Mary Meays
Site Code 1354
September 22, 1992
Page 2
5. Concentrations of dissolved phase fuel hydrocarbons in groundwater underlying the source
area are currently below.drinking water standards: SEACOR believes that dissolved phase
concentrations downgradient of the source area would tend to be lower than those measured
-at the source due to the physicochemical processes of.adsorption, dispersion, volatilization,
and biodegradation during transport.
6. A soil vapor extraction system has been operating at the site since April 1992:' Operating.;
data indicate that the system is effectively removing adsorbed phase gasoline from the source
area; thereby eliminating or significantly reducing potential for further groundwater
degradation.
Based on the rationale and site-specific conditionsstated above, we believe that adequate evidence
exists indicating that groundwater quality has not.been significantly impacted and respectively request
-you reconsider the'requirement for additional monitoring wells.
i
Your-September 15, 1992 letter.also requests,that.the existing.monitoring well be sampled on a
.'quarterly.basis, with the next sampling event to be scheduled_ no later than September 25, 1992.
Since installing the existing monitoring well in May 1991, 'SEACOR has. ,performed quarterly
.groundwater monitoring and reporting. The current.monitoring schedule includes sampling during
the months of February, May, August, and November., SEACOR completed the most recent
quarterly sampling event in August 1992 and the results were included in a quarterly status report
dated September 3, 1992. We.apologize for not providing advance notice of this sampling event.
I For.future sampling events,SEACOR will provide a minimum'of 48 hour advance notice. The next
quarterly sampling event.is scheduled for November 1992.
E ,
If you-need.further.-inform ation and/or clarification regarding,our.request, both SEACOR and Mr.
Kidd would be happy to meet with you and your supervisor to discuss this matter further. I will be
IE in-contact with-you. n'the pear:.future to schedule a-'-pnee.ing,,ifynecessary.;
Sincerely yours,
Science & Engineering Analysis Corporation
I
Bruce E.
