(AGE) for the above referenced site and has the
following comments.
The work plan was prepared in response to PHSIEHD directives to investigate the vertical and
lateral extent of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination evidenced on site following the removal of
one 750-gallon waste oil tank on June 13, 1991. The work pian:proposes to begin the
investigation with one direct push geoprobe soil boring in the former tank pit area. This boring will
be advanced to 30 feet below surface grade (bsg), or until Feld observations and screening with
an organic vapor meter indicate that vertical contaminant definition has been made. Soil'samples
for analysis will be collected at five-foot intervals. Please note that it is the recommendation of
PHSIEHD that boreholes be advanced using the continuous core methodology. Should soil
contamination be noted in this boring, a lateral assessment of the site will be required.
Should groundwater be encountered during boring advancement, grab samples for analysis will
be collected with a hydropunch. Depth to water at a nearby site was 30 feet bsg in Feb. 1999.
Selected soil and water samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gas
(TPHg), TPH diesel, and TPH motor oil by EPA Method 8015 modified/5030, and for benzene,
toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene by EPA Method 8020. Asper Health and Safety Code division
20, chapter 6.75, section 25299.37.1, at least one sample will be' analyzed for the presence of
methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE). k
The work plan with modifications as outlined above is approved. if you have any questions or
comments please call Lori Duncan at(209) 468-0337.
Donna Hera'n, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Lori Duncan, REHS Margaretgorio, REHS
Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor, Unit.IV
enc.
cc: Mark List, CVRWQCS
Tony Mikacich
ii,
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
