One soil sample was
collected from the bottom of the tank excavation and analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gas
and diesel (TPHg and TPHd), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene(BTEX), TPH as oil, TPH as
grease, metals, volatile organics and PCB's. Results of the analysis evidenced low to medium boiling
point hydrocarbons at 290 parts per million (ppm). The detection limits used for the BTEX analysis were
too high for the results to be accepted by PHSIEHD. For these reasons, an evaluation for closure was
not made on this tank.
In PHSIEHD correspondence dated July 21, 1997 notification was made that this site had been assigned
to the San Joaquin County PHSIEHD Local Oversight Program for oversight of assessment and clean-up
activities at contaminated underground storage tank sites. It was requested that a work plan to define the
vertical and lateral extent of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination in soil and ground water be submitted
to PHSIEHD by September 4, 1997. To date, no work plan has been received.
Please submit the requested work pian by June 4, 1999. Include in the work plan a sensitive
receptor/well survey that documents the location of all agricultural, industrial, domestic, municipal and
other wells within a 2000-foot radius of the subject site. The construction of these wells, if known, should
be provided. Also include in the work plan a site specific Health and Safety Plan,
Enclosed for your information are a State Water Resources Control Board Clean Up Fund application
booklet, and a list of environmental consultants currently working in the San Joaquin County area.
If you have any questions or comments please call Lori Duncan at(209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, RENS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Liu CA
Lori Duncan, REHS Margareagorio, REHS
Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor, Unit IV
Enclosure
cc: Mark List, Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (w/o enclosures)
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
