04 December 1998 <br /> AGE NC Project No. 98-0497 <br /> Page 2 of 4 <br /> in Appendix B. <br /> Following decontamination activities,a total of 500 poxmds of dry ice were purchased from Arctic <br /> Ice in Stockton and placed inside each UST to purge bolh volatile vapors and oxygen from the tank. <br /> Documentation for the dry ice purchase is included wilh Appendix'C. <br /> Following an inspection by representatives of the PHS- HD and the Montezuma Fire Department, <br /> the USTs were approved for removal and hoisted out of he tank cavity utilizing a conventional truck <br /> mounted crane. The tanks were hauled off-site as a non-hazardous material to West Coast <br /> Equipment, a tank recycling facility in Turlock, Caiifo 'a. Documentation of receipt of the USTs <br /> issued by West Coast Equipment is included with Appendix D. Photographs of each UST during <br /> tank removal activities are included with Appendix E. <br /> 2.2. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION <br /> Following tank removal activities, soil samples were collected from beneath the north end, middle <br /> and south end of the former UST locations by a representative of AAL and under the direction of <br /> the PHS-EHD. Samples were collected from depths of approximately 14 feet bsg. Analytical results <br /> of soil samples are summarized in Table 1. <br /> At the direction of the PHS-EHD,a total of six soil sam les were collected by AAL from stockpiled <br /> soil located approximately 100-feet south of the tank cavity for analysis. Slight to moderate <br /> petroleum hydrocarbon odors were noted in all six soil. samples during sample collection. <br /> Upon collection, each sample was logged on a chai of-custody form, transported to AAL in a <br /> chilled container and analyzed for the following": <br /> • Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as dies 1(TPH-d)in accordance with EPA Methods <br /> 8015M/5030; and <br /> • Volatile aromatics(benzene,toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes: BTEX) in accordance with <br /> EPA Method 8020; <br /> The laboratory report(AAL Batch No. 98-0930-019 ) arid chains-of-custody forms are presented in <br /> Appendix F. <br /> Advanced GeoEmAronmental,Inc. <br />
