} w Mr.Ron Rowe CAMBRIA
October 15, 1997
to ensure that the water samples are taken from the depths required. For the other borings, one water sample
will be taken from each well with a bailer as outlined in our protocols.
Monitoring. Well Construction: The boring(s) will be converted into a 2-inch diameter ground water
monitoring well(s)screened about,5 feet above and 15 feet below the first-encountered water table. The well
head will be sealed and locked beneath a traffic-rated vault.
SJCPHS recommendations for well construction will be observed, including screened intervals not greater
than 20 feet in length. Well construction will be based on field observations of lithology and the extent and
concentration of hydrocarbons. Cambria will be prepared to install a variety of slot sizes, screened intervals,
and/or nested wells, if needed.
Chemical Analysis:The soil and ground water samples will be analyzed for TPHg,benzene, toluene, ethyl
benzene, and xylenes,(BTEX by EPA Methods 8015/8020 at a California certified laboratory. The samples
will also be analyzed for oxygenated.fuel additives Methyl tert-Butyl Ether(MTBE),Tertiary Amyl Methyl
Ether(TAME), di-Isopropyl Ether(DIPE),Ethyl tert-Butyl Ether(ETBE),tert-Butanol, and ethanol using
EPA Method 8260. Methanol will be analyzed by EPA Method 8015 (modified). Proposed detection limits
for the oxygenated fuel chemical compounds in water are as follows:MTBE-5 gg/L,TAME-5 gg/L,DIPE
- 5 gg/L, ETBE.- 5 gg/L, tert-Butanol- 100 gg/L, ethanol-500 gg/L, and methanol - 1 mg/L. Proposed
detection limits for the oxygenated fuel chemical compounds in soil are as follows: MTBE - 0.1 mg/kg,
TAME-0.1 mg/kg,DIPE-0.1 mglkg,ETBE-0.1 mg/kg,tert-Butanol-5.0 mg/kg,ethanol 25 mg/kg, and
methanol- 1.0 mg/kg.
Physical Analysis:One soil sample from each lithological unit will be analyzed for.permeability, porosity,
density, organic carbon content.
Reporting: After the analytic results are received,we will prepare a subsurface investigation report that,at
a minimum,will contain:
• A summary of the site background and history,
• Descriptions of the drilling and soil sampling methods,
• Boring log and well construction diagrams,
• Tabulated soil and ground water analytic results,
• Analytic reports.and chain-of-custody forms,
3
