Mr Ron Rowe
C A M B R I A August 17, 1998
Offsite Well Investigation
On July 22, 1998, Cambria removed the pump and piping from the well at 333 E Main, which is
immediately adjacent to the Shell-branded station at 341 E Main The well location is shown on
Figure 1 The depth to water was 26 65 ft, and the total depth of the well was 66 50 ft Cambria
collected a grab water sample from the well and analyzed it for the same components as the ground
water samples from the CPT investigation
Cambria collected a water sample from a CalTrans irrigation well located southeast of the Shell-branded
station The well pump was turned on for five minutes, and a sample was collected from a sample tap
at the well head The sample was analyzed as described above
Onsite Well Purging and Sampling
Cambria pumped and sampled existing onsite monitoring well MW-1 The initial depth to water was
26 85 ft, and the total well depth was 27 2 ft The well was pumped dry a total of four times during a
period of one hour and 15 mmutes, during which a total of seven gallons of water were pumped from
the well Samples were taken at the beginning and end of the pumping, and analyzed for the same
parameters as the CPT ground water samples The analytical results are included in Table 3
RESULTS
CPT Soil Analytical Results No TPPH, BTEX,TAME, DIPE, ETBE, ter -Butanol, or ethanol were
detected in the soil samples analyzed, except for 0 00806 milligrams per kilogram(mg/kg)ethylbenzene
and 0 110 mg/kg xylenes from boring CPT-1 at a depth of 20 ft MTBE was detected in five samples
from CPT-1, with a maximum concentration of 27 mg/kg in the sample from 29 ft bgs MTBE was not
detected in any of the samples from the other borings Methanol was detected in ten of the samples,
with a maximum concentration of 5 1 mg/kg at 20 ft bgs in CPT-1 Soil analytical results are
summarized in Table 1 Complete analytical reports are included in Attachment C Analytical results
for physical parameter will follow later under separate cover
CPT Ground Water Analytical Results: No TPPH, BTEX, TAME, DIPE, ETBE, tert-Butanol, or
ethanol were detected in the grab ground water samples from any of the CPT borings MTBE and
methanol concentrations were detected at maximum concentrations of 170,000 micrograms per liter
(gg/L), and 59 pg/L,respectively,in boring CPT-1 Methanol is a common laboratory contaminant
I0
1 4
