Meeting Minutes 3130100
Page G of 7
® Shell recently installed extraction wells EW-1 and EW-2 near the former USTs
Both extraction wells are plumbed to an on-site GAC treatment system The
treated groundwater will be discharged to the sanitary sewer
• Shell intends to begin extracting groundwater from EW-1 this month The
initial flow rate would be 10 gpm, but may be increased to a maximum of 20
gpm Their goal is to achieve partial capture within this year Pump tests
performed on EW-1 indicate that an extraction rate of 10 to 20 gpm should
create a capture zone that encompasses the entire station property
7. City of Ripon Groundwater Usage
This agenda item was only partially covered by Dale Ramey due to the limited time
available He referred Nestle to the Ripon General Plan for more information on the
City's water supply system and future groundwater usage Key facts that were discussed
at the meeting include
o The City of Ripon's water supply system is capable of supplying water from
any municipal well to any portion of the City that is plumbed Pressure losses
across the system are minimal The City's water supply system allows them to
blend lower quality water from one municipal well with higher quality water
from other wells
® Several new municipal wells are planned to meet the City's increasing water
usage These new supply wells will probably be located near high growth areas
north and west of the City Center These new wells will probably be several
miles from the former Nestle site and may not impact remedial efforts
Action Items Nestle will obtain copy of the Ripon General Plan and contact City of
Ripon for more information on proposed new municipal wells
8. Coordination of Cleanup Efforts
Discussion of this agenda item was also cut short due to time constraints, but the
following conclusions and agreements were made
• Based on their proposed remedial actions, it appears that Shell's groundwater
cleanup activities will have little or no effect on remediation of the TCE plume
in the near future Expected extraction rates at the Shell Station are low and
withdrawals will be limited to the B-aquifer zone in Year 2000
• The next technical meeting will be held approximately 30 days following
submittal of the groundwater modeling report This meeting is expected to
occur in mid-May 2000
