PRE-TANK REPLACEMENT SITE ASSESSMENT WORK PLAN
1071 North Main Street,Manteca,California
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This work plan describes the planned.pre-tanke
_replacment•site assessment at the Shell
Oil Company (Shell) retail gasoline station located-at--1071 North Main i Street, Manteca,
San Joaquin County, California (Figure 1). This work plan was requested by Shell in
preparation for the replacement of the underground fuel storage tanks located at the site.
1.1 Purpose
The purpose of this investigation is to:.
o Characterize the site geologic and hydrogeologic conditions.
i
o Assess the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons (if any) in the soil and/or ground-
water beneath the site.
i
o Verify the soil conditions at the location of the proposed new and former
underground fuel storage tank cluster.
o Evaluate the need for further assessment and/or mitigation of petroleum
constituents in soil and/or groundwater beneath the site, prior to the tank
closure/replacement.
1.2 Scope
i
o j Drill .four soil fjorin s in the area of the existingunderground fuel storage tanks
9 i r9 _
(UST) and four soil borings in the proposed UST to a mi_nim_ um depth-of 20-feet'
below ground surface (bgs).
o -Drill two borings to a minimum depth-of-10-feet-bgs around each 'of the-four pump
islands 8 to asses the conditions of the existing-product-lines. --
o Drill one soil boring per 30 feet of product lines (1), to an estimated depth of five
feet bgs.
o Recover from each of the borings a representative soil samples at five-foot intervals
and classify the recovered soil samples according to the Unified Soil Classification
System. Screen the recovered soil samples for the presence of organic vapors
with a photoionization detector.
91-013A.RFr 1
I
I
