Jul-16-97 05:02P P -O2 Mr. Fon Rowe AMB�lelT� July 16, 1997 EXCAVATION AND SAMPLING ACTIVITIES Attendees: Ron Rowe Senior RENS San Joaquin County Public Hcalth Services Robert McClullen Inspector San Joaquin County Public Health Services Paul Waite Project Engineer Cambria Environmental Technology,Inc_ Dave Mordick Site Supervisor Paradiso Mechanical Removal and Sampling Date: August 15, 1996 Gasoline Tank Removal: Paradiso Mechanical of San Leandro, California removed three gasoline underground storage tanks,four associated dispensers,and approximately 220 ft of associated piping using i a backhoe. The tanks were labeled T-1,T-3,and T-4 and had capacities of 10,000--gallons, 8.(M-gallons, 8,000 gallons, respectively. The tanks were triple-rinsed prior to removal by Crosby and Overton of Oakland,California. Minor pitting was observed on the sides of each tank,however,no evidence of cracks, holes or other signs of structural failure was observed. i Dispenser and Product Piping Sampling. Cambria collected sixteen soil samples from fourteen locations j beneath the former product piping,vent lines,and dispensers by driving a clean brass soil tube into soil either in situ or excavated by backhoe. Four dispensers were removed from the site. The first dispenser sample was in the same location as the fust piping sample,and was labeled P-1. The other three dispenser samples were labeled D-2,D-3,and D-4. The initial samples from beneath two dispenser locations(P-i,4.5 ft and D-2,4.5 ft)appeared to contain petroleum hydrocarbons so additional samples were collected at a depth of 9 ft from those locations. Sample locations are shown on Figure 1 and analytic results are summruized on Table 1. (Former Gasoline Tank Pit Sampling and Overescavation: Cambria collected samples beneath the ends of the former gasoline tanks by driving a clean buss tube into soil excavated by backhoe.The soils beneath }the cast end of tank T-4 appeared to contain petroleum hydrocarbons,so additional soil was overexcavated and additional samples were collected from the bottom of the excavation. This continued until the maximum ;depth reachable by the backhoe,25 ft,was obtained. Approximately 100 cubic yards of soil removed from ;the excavation was stockpiled and sampled. Sample locations are shown on Figure 1 and analytic results are surrunarized on Table 1.
