~ Geofogir-af?ecknics Inc. Page 2
Marci Property
Project No.: 770.2
June 23,2000
'L I
Proposed Direction of Project
The additional site characterization work plan details the work outlined below. As this work is
being' performed and information is being obtained, we will evaluate it to determine if
modifications should be made to streamline the investigative process and bring cost savings to
the client and the Fund.
Additional Site Characterization Work
• Prepare work plan—previously completed
• Prepare a scaled site map of the site.
• Perform a 2,000-foot radius receptor well survey by reviewing the logs at the State of
California Department of Water Resources walking the area around the site to locate
domestic or production wells.
• Install a soil boring at the location shown on the map as MW-5. If contamination is observed
to a depth greater then 80-feet bgs, the boring will continue to a depth of 95-feet and a
discrete screened monitoring well will be installed. A 75-foot monitoring well will then be
installed adjacent to the deep well.
• Install one other water table monitoring well(MW-6)..
• Test a maximum of five soil samples per boring location(ten samples total) for BTEX, TPH-
G, TEPH-D and total lead.
• Have a licensed land surveyor survey the top of casing elevations and locations of the wells
into a benchmark elevation.
• Prepare a Site Characterization Report documenting well installation activities and the results
of laboratory analysis.
• Develop the new monitoring wells and perform one year of groundwater monitoring.
• Test groundwater samples for BTEX, TPH-G, TEPH=D and Total Lead.
• Prepare quarterly groundwater monitoring reports.
Listed below is a proposed schedule for implementing this project.
Proposed Bidding of Project
To remain in compliance with the USTCFP, Geological Technics Inc. requested V&W Drilling
to prepare for drilling and installing the 1 deep monitoring well and the 2 water table monitoring
wells. We have found V&W to be very cost effective for three primary reasons:
• reasonable charge rate
• fast drilling equipment
• well trained crew
These costs have been included in our budget spreadsheet prepared giving estimated costs for
-performing the work approved by SJC PHS/EHD. The budget spreadsheet is attached and shows
itemized cost for the tasks proposed. In an attempt to make this Pre-Approval flow smoothly, we
have used the same unit costs for this work that has previously been approved by the USTCFP
for other projects.
