However, the following modifications
to the workplan will achieve the same goal and allow the work to
proceed at this time .
Soil borings should be installed first in the original tank pit
area and, as needed, stepping out from this area of known impact
until the full distribution of contaminants is identified at the
site. The need for additional soil borings should be determined
in the field using field detection equipment . The person
responsible for the field work should have the background and
expertise to be able to make these types of decisions in the
field.
These soil borings should be completed as vent test wells only if
the field conditions warrant . In addition, to be most effective,
screen intervals in these wells should be limited to no more than
20 feet in length, or less, depending on lithology. Because of
the depth at this site, up to three two inch wells can be nested
in one borehole. Also, slot sizes of 0 . 20 inches should be
considered for the vent test wells. The person responsible for
the field work must be able to make these decisions as well . The
screen interval of the existing monitoring well, MW#1, and
current depth to water levels would likely preclude the use of
this well as an observation well at this time.
One of the most important aspects of this next phase of field
work at this site is the submittal of sufficient soil samples to
the laboratory for analysis to complete site characterization.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
