(GTI). To reduce the lithologic profile data gap, GTI
proposes to advance eight cone penetrometer testing (CPT) borings to a maximum depth of
90 feet below the ground surface (bgs). A minimum of one, and up to four soil samples
will be collected per borehole to assess the lateral and vertical extent of soil contamination;
and a maximum of three groundwater samples "NN-111 be collected per borehole to define the
lateral and vertical extent of the groundwater plume. A map is presented showing the
proposed CPT borehole Locations; however, no justification is given for these locations.
EHD recommends the following to better ensure lithologic assessment, as well as vertical
and lateral assessment of the extent of impacted soil and groundwater:
• Advancement of the proposed CPT-1 soil 'boring located near the former
underground storage tanks to a depth of approximately 120 feet bgs to characterize
the hydrogeology and lithology, and model potential contaminant migration
pathways. Analytical data from the installation of monitoring well MW-105 in.
August 2000, and current quarterly groundwater monitoring data for MW-105
demonstrate that soil and groundwater are impacted at 95 feet bgs. EHD believes
the advancement .of CPT borings.to the proposed depth of only.90 feet bsg would
not provide additional information to complete the vertical assessment of impacted
media.
• Advancement of the remaining seven proposed CPT borings to an appropriate depth
based on the lithology and field indications of contamination found during the
initial advancement of the first borehole.
I
C
i
