For the purpose of this pilot test, GTI
proposes to utilize the treatment unit for a period of up to five days.
The general process for extraction is as follows:
• Extract vapors (and soil pore water) using a liquid ring vacuum pump.at up to 26
inches Hg vacuum.
• The influent vapors and water will be separated in a portable vacuum tank.
• The contaminated vapor is then oxidized in a 250 cfrn Stealth thermal oxidizer.
• The captured contaminated groundwater entrained in the clay unit will be transferred
to a tanker truck.trailer via a high vacuum.pump. The tank trailer will be emptied at
regulator intervals by a licensed hauler (American Valley) for transportation to a
waste disposal facility.
r • Collect data for actual vacuum flow and contaminated concentrations and
L temperature.
• Delineate the area of influence from the applied vacuum through use of observation
Lwells.
• Continue the vapor extraction pilot test from VEW-1 a maximum of five days.
3.4 Extraction Test
The extraction from VEW-1 is intended to involve vapors only - no water except for the
entrained water pulled out with the soil vapors. We anticipate that the silt/clay units will
contain pore moisture and groundwater mounding may occur.
LGTI shall calculate the radius of influence by measuring vacuum pressure from the
extraction well and the vacuum pressure in surrounding wells. The methods and procedures
used for collecting the pilot.data are as follows:
Vacuum Drawdown
The vacuum response to vapor extraction will be measured by first attaching an airtight cap
to the well top. The cap has an orifice for attaching a length of tubing to the measurement
unit. Vacuum pressure will be measured using a Solomat 500e multifunctional instrument
and the values recorded every 0.5 to 1 hour.
L
