Page 13 .
Bioventing/Biosparging _
Pilot Test Work Plan
Project No.770.2
r June 9,2006
L 6.4 Dual Phase Extraction Tests
The test will start with extraction from well MW-5 which is the most heavily impacted well.
GTI will attempt to minimize groundwater extraction: initially with vacuum influence
measured after approximately 24 hours in adjacent monitoring wells screened across the
water table (MW-4 and MW 7) in new wells pairs IW-1/101,EW-1/101, EW-2/102 and EW-
3/103.
A second test (24 hours) will then be conducted by extracting from shallow vadose zone
wells IW-1, EW-1, EW-2 and EW-3 (installed for bioventing) with vacuum influence
measured in deep vadose zone wells EW-101, EW-102 and EW-103 and the.-adjacent
L monitoring wells MW-4, MW-5 and MW-7. `
_4
w
A third test (24 hours) will then be conducted by extracting from deep vadose zone wells IW-
101, EW-101, EW-102-and EW-103 (installed for bioventing) with vacuum influence
measured in shallow vadose zone wells EW-1, EW-2 and.EW-3 and the adjacent monitoring
r wells MW-4, MW-5 and MW-7:
These three high vacuum tests will be used to determine"preferential pathways of pneumatic
conductivity in the subsurface. For,the remainder of the week the full vacuum will be applied
.;. to well MW-5 to remove as much contaminant mass as possible and .to consume 'the
remaining propane in the.portable tank.
6. 6.5 Effectiveness Evaluation
r As stated above in Section 4.4 the amount of pressure necessary for demonstrating vacuum,
L influence in soil vapor extraction technology is generally regarded as at least 0.1. inches of
water vacuum. The radius of influence of the vapor extraction will be estimated by
comparing the changes in pressures at the monitoring wells that are located at varying
distances from the extraction wells.
Excelchem Environmental.Labs of Roseville, California performs an air analysis (8015) for
diesel constituents in;vapor. GTI will take vapor samples during pilot test extraction and will
r work with Excelchem(or other labs)to quantify mass removalrates during the pilot tests.
