y 670069kOI Teclucics lnc. 4C Page 3
Additional Site Characterization Work Plan
Project No.770.2
March 3,2005
Information on the use of CPT and associated sampling is included in Appendix B. (Note: the
contractor data included in Appendix B is for informational purposes only and three bids will
be obtained for the work as the USTCFP requires.)
V
Prior to commencing work, soil boring/monitoring well permits will be secured and the San
Joaquin County EHD will be notified at least 48 hours in advance. The subsurface will be
cleared of underground utilities by notifying Underground Service Alert 4
The borings will be advanced by a CPT rig with an appropriate drilling license. The
boreholes will be advanced to a maximum depth of 90 feet below the ground surface (bgs).
The expected depth to groundwater in this area is 67 feet below grade, based on information
from the December 2004 groundwater monitoring event.
3.2 Soil Sampling Procedure
u
Soil sampling with direct push rods requires the use of retractable sleeve tools. When the
sampler reaches the target depth, the rods are retracted to expose the cavity in the tip of the
sampler. The sampler is then locked in this open position and the rods driven downward to
allow soil to enter the device. The rods are then removed for sample retrieval. More
information on the process is included in Appendix B.
3.3 Soil Sample Analyses
The following discussion summarizes the sample testing proposed for this phase of work.
M;nmL/ y
1. At a minimum, the capillary fringe soil sample will be tested from each of the boreholes 1
(8 samples).
2. If field evidence (odor or discolored soil smear on rods) suggests that significant
contamination is present then additional soil samples will be analyzed, up to a maximum
` of four samples per borehole. !—
3. Soil samples will be tested for the following compounds:
• Purgeable aromatic hydrocarbons (BTEX)by EPA method 8020
• Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as gasoline by EPA method 8015M.
• Total Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons as diesel by EPA method 8015M
11
The samples will be submitted to a state certified laboratory for analysis. The detection
limits for these compounds are listed below. A Chain of Custody will be completed for all
samples collected and tracked to ensure sample integrity.
Detection Limits: TEPH-D BTEX TPR-G
Soil ( /kg) 1,000 3 1,000
v
V
