i
Geological Teckntcs Inc. {
Confirmation GW Sampling WP
Project No. 770.2
February 28,2011
the presence and locations of water supply wells reported to be located within a 600 foot
radius of the site. For purposes of establishing the 600 foot radius, the site will be defined as
the release.
GTI will then make reasonable efforts to obtain permission from the property owners to
access and sample the identified wells. Sampling of identified water supply wells is
discussed in Section 2.3 below.
I'
2.2 Conformational Groundwater Grab Sampling(GeoProbe®)
Conformational groundwater grab samples will be targeted in the groundwater between the
on-site source area and the water supply wells in the down-gradient and obliquely down-
gradient directions in the unmonitored depth intervals where impacted groundwater
commonly occurs on-site.
The following locations and depths have been selected to provide information primarily in
the southern portions of the site. It is anticipated that the 'sample locations and depths as
described below will target coarse grained units, and will define the lateral and vertical
extents of the plume in the southern portions of the site. tea°
Up to four (4) direct push boreholes will be advanced in the proposed locations indicated in
Figure 2. Groundwater samples will be collected at the intervals listed below. 5
Proposed Sample Location Groundwater Sampling Interval
GW-1 65' & 85' isa vim'
GW-2 65', 80' &95'
GW-3 65', 80' & 95' ?,
GW-4 80-85' 0 iL c,Pr
446
The boreholes will be drilled with a direct push rig owned and operated by a driller with a
C57 license. The rig advances a direct push coring tool with a pneumatic hammer to a
selected depth.
A boring log providing sediment description using the USCS and other field observations
will be maintained by a geologist working under the supe'r'vision of a professional geologist.
Although no soil contamination is anticipated to be encountered, GTI technical field staff will
have a portable photo ionization detector (PID) that uses a:,10.6eV lamp to detect compounds
with ionization potential below 10.6 eV (hydrocarbon range). PID readings will be taken
based on subsurface findings at the discretion of GTI field staff.
Upon reaching the capillary fringe in each borehole, a hydropunch-type groundwater-
sampling tool will be advanced into the groundwater and a groundwater sample will be
Geological Technics Inc. 4
7702 Confirmation GW Sampling 2-25-1 l.doc
