I S
Quik Stop Market No 121
CCI Project No 12118-2
Page 2
series drilling rig The well was installed by first cutting a 10-inch diameter hole through the
sidewalk, then hand auguring a 6-inch diameter hole to 5 feet Upon completion of the hand
auguring, the MD drill rig was positioned over the augered hole and then a 2 5-inch outside
diameter (O D ) Enviro-Core casing was pushed to 30 feet The 2 5-inch Enviro-Core casing was
then pulled out of the hole, a disposable tip was added to the bottom of the casing, and the casing
was then pushed back to the bottom of the hole The pre-packed well consisted of fifteen feet of
314" diameter screen within a 1 25" diameter screen Between the inner wall of the 125"
diameter screen and the outer wall of the 3/4" diameter screen is the filter pac, which consists of
2112 Lone Star sand PVC pre-pack collars with stainless steel hose clamps secure both the inner
and outer ends of the screened interval, which holds the pre-packed sand in place Three quarter
inch diameter solid PVC pipe extends from the top of the screen interval to the surface As the
sand was added, the 2 5-inch core-barrel was removed from the hole The sand interval was
raised to approximately 2 feet above the top of the screen interval, and approximately 1 foot of
bentonite pellets was added The well was then sealed with Portland cement to the surface A 2"
x 24" long PVC stove pipe was placed over the top of the 314" pipe at the surface and cemented
into place The stove pipe allows a 2" diameter, water-tight well plug and lock to be placed
over the well A 7-inch diameter, water-tight, well cover was installed over the top of the well
• A copy of the boring log and well schematic is attached in Appendix B
Surveying
A licensed land surveyor was retained to survey monitoring well MW-12 to determine the
elevation of the well casing The survey included both location and elevation determinations
Elevation readings were measured to the nearest 0 01 foot and corrected to mean sea level
CCI retained a professional surveyor (Jim Rasp, P E) to survey the location of all 13 site wells
using Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) The wells were surveyed to within one meter accuracy
at 11 00 am on October 6, 2001 using a Leica GS-50, s/n 50202 The GPS unit is a sub-meter
accuracy unit approved by the State of California Copies of the well survey data are attached in
Appendix C
Groundwater Sampling
On October 4, 2001, CCI sampled twelve of the thirteen wells for the quarterly sample round As
previously mentioned, monitoring well MW-8 was found to be dry Prior to groundwater
sampling, CCI measured the depth to groundwater using an electronic sounding tape and field-
checked the wells for the presence of free-floating product by collecting a sample in a clear
acrylic bailer Free-floating product was not observed Moderate product odor was noted
•
