Monitoring Well Installation Report
k Quik Stop Market No 121
Page 8
from depths of 5, 10, 15, 20, 26 5 and 27 5 feet were reported to contain TPHg ranging from 1 7
milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) to 13 mg/kg Soil samples RW-1-26 5 and RW-1-27 5 were
also reported to contain 0 013 and 0 020 mg/kg toluene, respectively No other soil samples were
reported to have detectable BTEX compounds
The six soil samples collected from RW-1 were also reported by the laboratory to contain
detectable concentrations of the fuel oxygenate methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE) The
concentrations of MTBE in soil samples collected from RW-1 ranged from 1,600 mg/kg at RW-
1-10 to 45,000 mg/kg at RW-1-15 Lower concentrations of MTBE were also detected in soil
samples collected at MW-4-10, MW-4-15, MW-5-10 and MW-5-15 In addition, three soil
samples (MW-4-10, RW-I-10 and MW-5-10) were also reported to contain detectable tert-
butanol (TBA) at concentrations ranging from 54 mg/kg to 660 mg/kg No other soil samples
were reported to have detectable fuel oxygenate compounds Results of the soil sample
analysis are summarized in Table 2
Groundwater Conditions
The five groundwater monitoring wells (screened from approximately 9 to 24 feet) were sampled
and found to be impacted with petroleum hydrocarbons and MTBE Monitoring well MW-1,
located on the northwest side of the site (Figure 4), near the intersection of Union Road and West
Louis Avenue, was reported to contain TPHg at a concentration of 5,300 micrograms per liter
(ug/1) and MTBE at 11,000 ug/I Monitoring well MW-2, also located on the north side of the
site, was reported to be free of detectable TPHg/BTEX and MTBE compounds Monitoring
well MW-3, located on the southeast side of the property, was reported to contain 34,000 ug/l
TPHg, with no BTEX compounds reported This well was reported to have MTBE at a
concentration of 110,000 ug/l Recovery well RW-1, located near the east side of the fuel tanks,
was also reported to contain 28,000 ug/l TPHg and 84,000 ug/1 MTBE Monitoring well MW-4,
screened from 33 to 43 feet, was also reported to contain 1,400 ug/l TPHg and 3,500 ug/1 MTBE
Monitoring wells MW-5, located on the southwest side of the site, and MW-7, located on the east
side of the site (both wells are screened from 10 to 25 feet) were reported to be free of detectable
TPHg/BTEX compounds Both MW-5 and MW-7 was reported to contain 9 2 ug/l and 6 4 ug/l
MTBE, respectively Deep well MW-6, screened from 65 to 75 feet, was reported to be free of
TPHg/BTEX and fuel oxygenate compounds Results of the groundwater sample analysis are
summarized in Table 3
Conclusions and Recommendations
Based on the information obtained during this investigation, as well as from previous
investigations conducted at the site, it appears the groundwater is impacted with petroleum
hydrocarbons, mainly in the vicinity of Quik Stop Market's fuel tanks on the southeast side of the
