• Visit site to review on-site records, determine work constraints, sketch scaled site
plan, and mark drilling locations;
• Meet with regulatory agency, if necessary.
2.1.2 Health and Safety Plan
Prior to mobilizing for field activities, IT will prepare a site health and safety plan. The
health and safety plan will include safety procedures for work to be performed, chemical
hazard information, site safety officers, and preferred medical emergency locations.
2.1.3 Permitting
To perform the proposed scope of work, a soil boring permit will be obtained from
PHS/EHD. All sample locations will be located within the property boundary and off of any
public road right-of-way. Therefore, neither offsite access agreements nor encroachment
permits will be required. At least 72 hours prior to drilling, IT will notify Underground
Service Alert (USA) to perform a routine utility clearance inspection.
2.2 Soil and Groundwater Investigation
IT will collect groundwater grab and soil samples from up to six (6) locations using a
Geoprobe 5400 Direct Penetration Technology (DPT) rig. The proposed locations are shown
on Figure 2. One sample location will be directly over the north end of the fourth former
UST where TEH-as-diesel was detected in the highest concentration. A second sample
location will be positioned over the north end of the westernmost former UST where
concentrations of TEH-as-diesel exceeded 100 ppm. The remaining four sample locations will
be located outside of the former UST excavation so that the extent of any impacted
groundwater can be defined.
From the sample location positioned over the highest known soil contamination, soil samples
will be collected every five feet starting at 15 feet bgs. From the sample location positioned
in the northwest corner of the former UST excavation, soil samples will be collected every 10
feet starting at 15 feet bgs. From the four sample locations positioned outside of the former
UST excavation, one soil sample will be collected from the vadose zone and one soil sample
will be collected from the capillary fringe. Soil samples will be collected by driving the
stainless steel sampling tool to the target depth so that up to two feet of undisturbed soil can
be collected into an acetate sample tube. The sample will then be retrieved to the surface
3
