SOIL BORING ACTIVITIES
r.
Probe borings B-1 through B-3 were advanced utilizing a truck-mounted Geoprobe 5400 equipped
with 1.125-inch diameterprobe rods using"direct push"technology.Probe boring B-1 was advanced
vertically to a depth of 70 feet below surface grade(bsg)in the center of the former UST excavation,
B-2 and B-3 were advanced vertically to a depth of 75 feet bsg south and north of the former UST
excavation, respectively, to obtain soil and grab ground water samples.
av
3.1.1. Soil Sample Collection
+V
Soil samples were collected at 5-foot intervals, beginning at 10 feet bsg, to total depth of each
boring. Each sample was collected utilizing a 1.125" Geoprobe soil sampling assembly loaded with
'- four six-inch brass sleeves. After collection, the ends of the second brass sleeve were covered with
Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape. Each sample sleeve was labeled with soil probe boring
location, depth, time, date and sampler's initials and then placed in a chilled container.
3.1.2. Ground Water Sample Collection
Grab ground water samples were collected from probe borings B-1 through B-3. Grab ground water
samples were collected utilizing a Geoprobe water sampling assembly fitted with a pre-cleaned one-
inch diameter 0.01-inch slotted temporary well screen. The ground water sample was extracted by
lowering a Teflon hose equipped with a ball-valve through the hollow center of the push rods into
the screen section. Each ground water sample was transferred into three laboratory-supplied,40-m1
volatile organic analysis (VOA) vials containing 0.5 ml hydrochloric acid (18%) as sample L/4, 6
preservative and one laboratory-supplied 1 liter amber bottle without a e err collection, the Sf I
samples were properly labeled, placed in a chilled container and transported under chain-of-custody
to Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories(CTEL)a California Department of Health Services(DHS)-
certified laboratory.
Lo
3.1.3. Equipment Decontamination
L.
Prior to sample collection, Geoprobe soil sampling equipment was thoroughly rinsed with clean
water after being washed with a solution of Alconox. Geoprobe rods were thoroughly cleaned prior
to soil probe boring advancement.
La
V+ Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
