ANALYTICAL METHODS
V
The selected soil and each ground water sample were transported to CTEL, , for analysis. Soil
samples and ground water samples collected from borings B-1 through B-3 were analyzed for one
or more of the following:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) and diesel (TPH-d) in
Lo accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified,
• Volatile aromatic hydrocarbons: benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and total xylene (BTEX)
in accordance with EPA methods 8020/8260 and
L.
• Fuel additives: di-isopropyl ether(DIPE),ethyl tertiary-butyl ether(ETBE),methyl tertiary-
butyl ether(MTBE), tertiary-amyl methyl ether(TAME), tertiary butanol (TSA), ethylene
dibromide (EDB), 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) in accordance with EPA Method 8260
Modified.
4.0. FINDINGS
NOW
The soil stratigraphy was determined from field description of soil samples. Hydrocarbon-impact
to soil and ground water was inferred from Iaboratory analysis of the soil and ground water samples.
Ir
4.1. SOIL PROFILE
4
Generally, grey, silt was encountered from approximately 10 feet to 20 feet bsg. Laterally
discontinuous, clay was encountered at 25 feet bsg in borings B-I and B-3, and at approximately
L. 35 to 40 feet bsg in boring B-2 . Silt or locally silty sand was observed from approximately 30 to
65 feet bsg in borings B-1 and B-3 and at approximately 45 to 65 feet bsg in B-2. Boring logs are
included in Appendix A.
4.2. ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF SOIL SAMPLES
L►
TPH-g was detected in 5 of the 21 analyzed soil samples at concentrations ranging from 1.3 mg/kg
(B1-10)tol,800 mg/kg(B2-30).TPH-d was detected in samples 132-20 and 132-30 at concentrations
of 240 mg/kg and 580 mg/kg, respectively. The most significant concentrations of TPH were
detected at the depth of 30 feet bsg in boring 132, near the former dispenser area. TPH was not
detected in soil sample collected between: a depth of 30 to 65 feet bsg in boring B 1; a depth of 50
to 65 feet bsg in boring B2 and the entire depth of boring B3.
Advanced GcoEnvironmental,Inc.
V
