3rd Quarter SVES Report - Beason #492, Manteca 14 October 1992
f
I. PROGRAM SUMMARY - THIRDQ UARTER 1992
A summary of the remediation system performance statistics for the
period of operation are presented in the following table:
THIRD QUARTER 1992 REMEDIATION STATISTICS
Soil Vapor Extraction System
Beacon Station #492
Manteca, California
Hydrocarbon Mass Extracted 338 Lbs
Benzene Mass Extracted 3 Lbs
Initial Hydrocarbon Extraction Rate 28 Lbs/Day
Final Hydrocarbon Extraction Rate <0.5 Lbs/Day
The subject remediation program was conceived as a short term (<90day)
operation to clean-up soils in the area of the underground fuel storage
tanks. Following start-up, the extracted vapor concentrations dropped
rapidly indicating a dwindling contaminant mass. During the later part
of the program, the influent benzene concentration was often below
detectable limits.
Following the last monitoring, the SVES was left on to continue "polish
venting" of the soils to the maximum extent possible before the mobile
' equipment was moved to another site.
II . INDIVIDUAL MONITORING EVENTS
The following section describes the start-up, servicing and monitoring
activities carried out during the various site visits. 3
Start Up Activities:
The system was initially started on 24 June 1992 for inspection by the
San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution Control D7strict (SJVUAPCD) .
The District inspector verified compliance with conditions of the
Authority to Construct which the SJVUAPCD issued for this project.
Although the start-up was granted APCD approval , the operation was shut
down following the inspection due to concerns over equipment nose. On
25 June, an acoustical enclosure was installed around the equipment by
Bravo Environmental Sound Control Co. of Bakersfield.
_ 2 _
k
