-r
TL 791-199-09 Page 2
f
Drilling and Sampling: The soil borings will be drilled using
a Central Mine Equipment Company, Model 75 (CME-75) truck-mounted
drill rig equipped with 6-5/8-inch outside diameter (OD) ,
continuous-flight, hollow-stem augers . Soil samples will be
obtained by driving a 2-inch OD and 1.5-inch inside diameter ( ID)
by 1. 5-foot long split-barrel sampler, equipped with three 1 . 5-inch
I diameter by 6-inch long brass sleeves, a minimum of 12 inches into
the soil . The bottom sleeve of each sample will be retained for
chemical analysis . The ends of the sleeve will be covered with
Teflon® tape and sealed with plastic end caps. Each sample
container will be labelled. Soil retained in the middle and the
upper sleeves will be transferred into a plastic bag for field
screening using a Photoionization Detector (PID) or a Drager tube.
Upon completion of drilling operations, the soil borings will
be backfilled from the bottom of the borehole to the surface with
a sand-cement slurry. Soil cuttings generated by the drilling
operations will be collected in 55-gallon drums and will remain on-
site, pending the results of laboratory analysis.
l Decontamination: Decontamination procedures will be
implemented to reduce the potential for cross-contamination between
samples . Before, during, and following drilling operations the
augers and associated drilling equipment will be thoroughly cleaned
using a high pressure hot water (steam) washer. The hot water
washer has a pressure of approximately 1,200 pounds per square inch
l (psi) and a water temperature of approximately 100 degrees
Centigrade ( °C) . The sampler and brass sleeves will be steam
cleaned or washed in a detergent solution, rinsed with clean tap
l water, and air-dried prior to initial use and between each sampling
4 event. The augers will be steam cleaned prior to the drilling of
71 each boring.
' Wash water generated from the cleaning operations will be
retained in a steel wash trough and transferred into 55-gallon
steel drums . The drums will be sealed and temporarily stored on
site at a location inaccessible to the public. Each drum will be
labelled to identify its contents. The labelling information will
include: generator's name and address, date(s) of accumulation,
L source, company name, and job number.
i
a1.,77tea" .dx.
Fresno Modesto Visalia Bakersfield
