Each sample container will be labelled
immediately following collection in the field. Chain-of-custody
protocol, described in U.S. EPA, 1986, Test Methods for Evaluating
Solid Waste, SW-846, 3rd ed. , will be followed. Samples will be
placed in sealed plastic bags and put in an ice chest. Samples
will be maintained at approximately 4°C until they were delivered
to the laboratory.
Analytical Methods : Soil samples will be tested in the
laboratory for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (B, T, E, X)
li and total petroleum hydrocarbons gasoline (TPH-G) . The
preparation and analytical methods used for sample analyses are
( presented in the following table.
l
Preparation and Analytical Methods
f
Soil
fPreparation Analytical
Type of Analysis Method Method
( Benzene, Toluene,
l Ethylbenzene, Xylenes 5030 8020
Total Petroleum Hydro-
carbons - Gasoline 5030 GC/FID (LUFT)'
i
GC/FID = Gas Chromatography/Flame Ionization Detection
LUFT = Leaking Underground Fuel Tank Field Manual
1 U.S. EPA, 1986, Test Methods for Evaluating Solid Waste: Office of
Solid Waste and Emergency Response, SW-846, July.
( 2
State of California State Water Resources Control Board, 1989,
Leaking Underground Fuel Tank (LUFT) Field Manual: March.
i
Fresno Modesto Visalia Bakersfield
