Pea gravel was removed from under the concrete
island to about 2 feet below grade surface (BGS) where native soil began. A 4-inch
diameter hand auger was used to drill to approximately two feet into the native soil.
Once that depth was reached, a sampling shoe with a clean brass tube insert was
hammered into the native soil to obtain the samples. Total sampling depth was about
four feet BGS. Aluminum foil and plastic caps were placed over the tube ends. The tubes
were then labeled and placed on ice for transport to the testing laboratory for certified
chemical analysis. Mild to slight petroleum hydrocarbon odors were noted during
sampling. Additional soil was removed to an approximate depth of 13 feet BGS to
remove all petroleum containing soil. No composite sample was taken of the soil
because all removed materials were pea gravel. A chain of custody form accompanied
the samples to the lab.
No groundwater was encountered to a depth of 4 feet BGS during sampling. The
sampled soils were highly plastic clays and sandy clays.
190 East 7th Street • Pittsburg, CA 94565-2317 •FAX(925) 439-2566 • Phone (925)439-1024 0
