GROUNDWATER SAMPLING
On September 23, 1999, Michael Dzugaj and John P. Cummings of
JPCA went to the site to collect groundwater samples. Carol Oz,
Sr REHS, SJCEHD inspector was also on site. All three of the
wells needed to have more grout placed in the bore holes. The
grout seals had settled up to 11 feet, not uncommon in deeper
wells with significant sand in the zone to be grouted.
The wells were purged by bailing, by hand, with a clean dedicated
PVC bailer for each well. Approximately three well volummes as
required by the SJCEHD inspector were taken from each well .
After the bailing of three well volummes the depth to water in
the wells was remeasured, as required by the SJCEHD inspector.
The purged groundwater was placed a in 55-gallon drum labeled
awaiting analysis. The wells were considered stabilized when the
following indicator parameters were within the ranges established
below. Temperature (plus or minus 0 . 5 degrees Centigrade) , pH
(within plus or minus 0 . 1 pH unit) and Specific Conductance
(within plus or minus 5% of the reading range) . Well data sheets
are contained in Appendix B.
Three groundwater samples, one from each well, were collected by
a dedicated bailer, placed in two 40 ml VOAs with Teflon septa
and one later glass collection bottle, labeled, held in a cooled
(4 Degrees C) ice chest and transported to a State Certified
Laboratory, under COC documentation, for analyses.
CHEMICAL ANALYSIS
SOIL
The soil samples collected were analyzed for Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbons as Gasoline (TPHG) ; Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene
and Xylene (BTEX) ; Oxygenates; Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as
Diesel (TPHD) . The samples were analyzed for TPHG by EPA Method
8015 modified with purge and trap preparation 5030 (GC/FID) with
detection limits of 50ug/l . EPA Method 602 will be utilized for
BTEX with a detection limit of 0. 5ug/l as required by the SJCEHD.
The results of the analysis of the soil samples in parts per
million (PPM) for MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3 are shown in Table 1, . 2 and
3 respectively. The laboratory data sheets with detection limits
and COC documentation are contained in Appendix B.
5
