Former Beacon Station No.l474
• February 26,2003
Stockton.California _ Preliminary Results Report and Work Plan Addendum
. SITE DESCRIPTION AND BACKGROUND
The site is an operating gasoline service station located on the southwestern corner of the
intersection of East Main Street and Broadway Avenue in Stockton, California. Site
facilities include a station building, two gasoline product dispenser islands located toward
the northern property boundary, and three underground gasoline storage tanks (USTs)
located toward the northeastern property boundary. Locations of these and other pertinent
site features are shown on the Site Plan (Figure 2).
t
Previous environmental work at the site was performed by Horizon, and others. The
previous work was summarized by Horizon in the PAR dated March 18, 2002. Groundwater
monitoring has been performed at the site since 1993. Analytical results and groundwater
level data collected since 1998 are summarized in Table 1.
ADDITIONAL SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATION
The preliminary phase of the additional subsurface investigation consisted of collection of
groundwater samples from the saturated zone at various locations and depths. The results of
the groundwater analyses were used in the evaluation of the location and well construction
specifications for additional site monitoring wells. The preliminary investigation phase was
performed with a cone-penetrometer test (CPT) rig capable of generating a soil profile log
and collecting discrete-depth groundwater samples from below the water table. The CPT soil
log utilizes electronic data of soil parameters and computer interpretation. The groundwater
samples are collected with a hydropunch-type sampling tool. Fieldwork was performed in
accordance, where applicable, with the Horizon Field Methods and Procedures (Appendix
B).
Well permit SR# 0031386 (Appendix A) was obtained from San Joaquin County
. Environmental Health Services to allow the advancement of the soil borings. Gregg In Situ,
C:1Projects114741141WPaddnm2-43.doc
Project No. 1474.14 2 HORIZON ENVIRONMENTAL, INC.
