i
TANK CLOSURE REPORT
BEACON #474
3440 EAST MAIN STREET
STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA
AMY PROJECT NO. 19012.03
Acton • Mickelson • van Dam, Inc. (AMV), has been authorized by Ultramar Inc. (Ultramar),
to conduct soil sampling as required during underground storage tank removal at Beacon #474,
3440 East Main Street, Stockton, San Joaquin County, California. The site is located on the
south side of East Main Street, bordered on the east by Broadway and is approximately 114 male
west of Highway 99 (Figure 1). The surrounding area consists of a school, and residential and
commercial properties.
1.0 BACKGROUND
Petroleum product storage at the site consisted of three 10,000-gallon-capacity underground
storage tanks (USTs). The tanks have contained various grades of leaded and unleaded gasoline.
Figure 2 is a site map illustrating the location and orientation of the tanks. Previous work at
the subject site has included advancement of three soil borings on site. Of the nine soil samples
collected from these borings, seven contained detectable concentrations of petroleum
hydrocarbon constituents.
2.0 UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK REMOVAL
AND RELATED SOIL SAMPLING
General contractor for underground storage tank removal at the site was Walton Engineering of
West Sacramento, California. All soil removed from the UST area during the tank removal was
transported to Ultramar's Hanford facility for remediation by thin-spreading.
On September 15, 1993, the existing USTs were removed. Removal of the tanks was witnessed
by Mr. Terry Fox of Ultramar, Mr. Steve Liaty of AMV, and Mr. William Snavely of the
Department of Public Health Services, San Joaquin County. The tanks were inspected upon
removal. All three USTs were found to be in good condition, and no holes were observed in
any of the tanks. The tanks were transported off site by H & H Ship Service Company to San
Francisco, California, for metal salvaging.
RYT012,1:CD
