1 H KLEINFELDER & ASSOCIATES
A soil sample was collected from the soil pile with the highest PID
• readings (SP-59, 460 ppmv and SP-60, 430 ppmv) . Soil sample 5-03 was
collected in the vicinity of SP-59 and submitted under chain of custody to
California Analytical Laboratories/Enseco in West Sacramento. The sample
was analyzed for volatile aromatics (benzene, toluene, xylene) by EPA 8020
and total petroleum hydrocarbons by GC-FID. The results are as follows:
Sample ID TPH Benzene Toluene Xylene
5-03 830 mg/Kg ND 380 ug/Kg 10,800 ug/Ig
The locations of the soil piles, PID sample points, and soil samples
submitted for chemical analyses are shown on Plate 1.
Soil sample S-03 was collected from the soil pile with the highest PID
readings in an attempt to analyze the area of the soil piles with the
highest concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons. The disposition of the
covered soil piles will be based on the "worst case scenario" as
determined from soil sample 5-03. The San Joaquin County Air Pollution
Control District "Contaminated Soil Aeration" document dated October 16,
1986 specifies contaminated soil with an organic content of 500-1,000 ppm
(mg/Kg) can be aerated at a rate of 60 cubic yards per day (reference
attached) .
J.H. Kleinfelder & Associates recommends that the stored soil be aerated
in accordance with the specified guidelines. The San Joaquin Local Health
District and San Joaquin County Air Pollution Control District should be
notified prior to implementing an aeration program. Please be advised
that we can assist you with any construction management services you may
require to initiate this program.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please do not
hesitate to contact us. Thank you.
Sincerely,
J.H. KLEINF LDER & ASSOCIATES
6,-e U
Eric S. Fin
dla
Staff G ologist
Kent E.
