Box 886
Benicia, California 94510
SUBJECT: Food and Liquor Store 76, Manteca, California
Dear J.J. :
A PIA screening survey was conducted of the soil undergoing controlled
aeration at the Manteca Sand and Gravel yard located at 812 Moffat Blvd. ,
Manteca, California. Approximately 324 cubic yards of soil stored at the
site will be aerated according to the guidelines specified by the San
Joaquin County Air Pollution Control District. On May 22, 1986
approximately 60 cubic yards of soil were spread from 6 inches to I- foot
thick. The soil was turned a minimum of two times a day.
• The PID survey was conducted by a Kleinfelder environmental geologist on
May 28, 1987. Soil samples were screened at 12 sample points in the
spread soil. No readings were registered from 10 of the 12 soil samples
screened. Sample point SP-02 had a PID reading of 126 parts per million
by volume (ppmv) and sample point SP-12 had a PID reading of 47 ppmv. The
locations of the sample points and PID screening results are presented on
the soil survey map (Plate 1) . It should be noted that sample points
SP-02 and SP-12 are approximately 5 feet apart and 0 ppmv readings were
registered within 5 feet of the two positive readings.
Earlier PID screenings and confirmationn soil sampling have been conducted
for this project. Some of the previous PID and confirmation lab results
are presented below:
o PID screening of excavation at Food & Liquor site in Manteca on
April 2, 1987.
SP-11 3.5 ppmv TPH ND
SP-10 1 ppmv TPH ND
SP-12 170 ppmv TPH ND
SP-13 0 ppmv TPH ND
SP-15 0 ppmv TPH ND
A
S J I.s • i r
