liners. One of the middle brass liners will be immediately capped with Teflon covers
and plastic end caps for submittal to the District laboratory. 'A headspace analysis
will be performed on one of the other brass retainers and readings will be recorded.
Visual and physical descriptions of the remaining soil in the liners will be used to
identify soil types and geologic units. The Unified Soil Classification System (USCS)
will be used to classify soil type. Geologic data will be recorded on boring logs.
Soil samples will be collected to total depth. Only vadose zone samples will be
submitted for chemical analysis.
The soil samples will be submitted to the District laboratory and analyzed for
TPH-g by EPA Method 8015-Modified/EPA Method 5030 and BTEX by EPA
Method 8020. Ten percent of the soil samples will be analyzed for total lead by EPA j
Method 6010 or 7000 series (Inductively Coupled-Argon Plasma/Atomic Absorption
[ICAP/AA] methods). Holding times for these soil analyses is 14 days for TPH-g
and BTEX, and 28 days for total lead. The analytical methods and other analytical
requirements are specified in Appendix C. The samples will be numbered and
packaged as specified below.
Sample Numbering and Packaging
' Each sample will be given a sample number so that the analytical data may be
readily associated with the correct sampling location. The sample number will
designate the sampling location, matrix, and date through the use of a three part j
number. The following is an example sample number. MW-8/S/893. In this
r example, the.first part of the number designates that the sample location is MW-8.
L The second part of the number indicates that the matrix is Soil. The third part of the
number indicates that the sample was collected in August 1993.
A sample label will be affixed to each sample upon collection. The sample
labels will include the following information:
• Sample number
• Sample collection date/time
• Sampler name and signature
93R22 East Bay Municipal Utility District
40429200.wp 11 Work Plan-Stockton Service Center
