3A. Using a clear bailer, a volume of groundwater will be pulled from the well and
checked for petroleum hydrocarbons with a PID or FID, then visually observed for
sheen. Prior to sampling, the wells will be measured for free product, measured for
water levels, and purged.
Quality Control Samples
Quality Control samples will be collected to provide a check on the sampling,
{ analysis, and shipping procedures. One split sample will be collected for every ten
L samples collected and analyzed by an outside laboratory to provide a check on the
analytical procedures. Because of the volatility of the analytes, the samples will not
actually be split, but duplicated instead. The split samples will be submitted for the
same suite of analyses as the other samples to a State certified laboratory
subcontracted by the District. One duplicate groundwater sample will be collected
from one of the monitoring wells during the initial sampling of the new wells and
,. g g P
during each quarterly monitoring event. These quality control samples will be
collected and handled in the same manner as the other samples. The duplicate
samples will be submitted for the same analyses as the other samples. One laboratory
prepared trip blank, consisting of three.40 ml vials, will be shipped with the collected
samples to provide a check on the shipping procedures. The trip blank will be
"J submitted to the District laboratory for BTEX analyses.
D. Quarterly.Monitoring
Quarterly monitoring will be conducted at the site to determine the seasonal
effect on the groundwater and to track any movement of the contaminant plume.
..; BVWST will collect groundwater samples from each of the existing and new wells on
a quarterly basis, beginning with the third quarter of 1993 (Weston has performed
Lquarterly monitoring for the first two quarters of 1993). The samples will be
collected as described for the groundwater monitoring in Section 4B. Samples will be
numbered and packaged as specified in Section 3A:
E. Tidal Monitoring
Because of the proximity to the Stockton Deep Water Channel, the groundwater
at the site may be influenced by the tides. The tidal influence will be observed by
Lmeasuring the water level in .the Stockton Deep Water Channel during each
groundwater sampling event. BVWST will use an electronic oil/water interface probe
93R22 East Bay Municipal Utility District .
40429200.wp 19 Work Plan-Stockton Service Center
